Overview

The Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer-New Generation (IASI-NG) on board the EPS-SG satellite is a Fourier Transform Spectrometer measuring 16921 spectral channels between 645 and 2760 cm-1, with regular spectral sampling of 0.125 cm-1. The infrared radiance spectra provide information on greenhouse gases, clouds, aerosols, and trace gases as well as fulfilling the primary objective of IASI-NG by supporting numerical weather prediction (NWP) with information on atmospheric temperature and moisture profiles at a high vertical resolution.

The IASI-NG scans across the track in a step-and-stare mode, with each scan cycle consisting of 14 Earth views (field-of-regards, FORs), one cold space view and one black body view. The duration of a scan cycle is 15.58s and the swath width is about 2000 km. Each FOR contains 4x4 field-of-view (FOV) at a nadir resolution of 12 km.

The IASI-NG L1C data product contains: 1) atmospheric geo-localized and calibrated spectra; 2) quality indicators (flags or parameters); and 3) complementary information, including cloud fraction and radiance classification.
